The Carthage region provides residents easy access to several means of transportation—state and U.S. highways, a handful of airports and rail travel. Ideally located in the center of the United States, travel in and out of Carthage is made simple, no matter which direction you wish to go.

A host of major roadways in and around Carthage affords commuters easy access to neighboring towns and states throughout the country. Carthage’s closest roadways include four-lane interstate grade U.S. Highway 71, which provides north-south travel, while Highway 96 and Interstate 44 offer east-west travel.

The nearby Joplin Regional Airport, located just 11 miles west of Carthage, provides commercial service to the region’s residents, offering two airlines with four daily nonstop flights to Kansas City. The community also has access to the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport, situated 62 miles from Carthage in Fayetteville/Springdale, offering six airlines with flights to 15 nonstop destinations, and the Springfield-Branson Regional Airport, positioned 65 miles from the city in Springfield, offering six airlines with flights to 12 nonstop destinations.

The city of Carthage is also serviced by the Missouri-Northern Arkansas Railroad, comprised of 540 miles of rail line through Arkansas, Kansas and Missouri.
