There is a rich history along with your day as you “get your kicks” on a section of Watson Road that was part of the famous Route 66 program. Also of note is that the classic “golden arches” on the same stretch of Watson Road have been serving St. Louisans longer than any other–it was the first McDonald’s location opened in the entire city.

One of the first malls opened in St. Louis County is located in Crestwood and has recently been purchased with plans to turn the over one million square foot plaza into a mixed-use lifestyle center.

The mall’s tenants anxiously await the total renovations of what is now being called Crestwood Court. Watson Road hosts many other retailers, such as Westlake Ace Hardware, Best Buy, Gordmans, Office Max, Frederick’s Beauty, Kohl’s, Walgreen’s, Creve Coeur Camera, Tuesday Morning, and Barnes & Noble. Major retailers in the City of Sunset Hills include Johnny Mac’s Sporting Goods, Old Navy, Marshalls, PetSmart, Borders Books Music & Café, Pearle Vision, Toys R Us, Bed Bath & Beyond, Home Depot, Mers Goodwill, among others. In the past several years, many new plazas have sprung up along Watson, South Lindbergh and Gravois Roads, home to businesses such as Edible Arrangements, Wired Coffee, Starbucks, FedEx Kinkos, SignKraft, Monkey Joes, Verizon Wireless and U.S. Cellular.

And when it comes to finding great food, visitors will find just about any cuisine they crave – from fast food fixes and foods of ethnic origin, to inexpensive family-type restaurants and that special occasion dining experience. Sample seafood at Red Lobster; steaks seared to perfection at Outback Steakhouse; delectable beef, chicken and steak dishes at Fletcher’s Kitchen & Tap; the best in food and specialty beers at Growlers Pub, O’Leary’s and Helen Fitzgerald’s, incredible breakfast selections 24 hours a day, seven days a week at IHOP and Denny’s; and the best pizza and Italian dishes in town at Gianino’s, The Pasta House Co. and Rich & Charlie’s. Flavorful soups and sandwiches are found at Saint Louis Bread Company, tasty subs at Lenny’s Sub Shop and salad creations top the menu at Sweet Tomatoes, while authentic Mexican food awaits visitors at Panchero’s Mexican Grill.
