The school district serving much of the surrounding area is Hillsboro R-III. With more than 3,500 students ranging in grades from PK-12, the district has five main schools educating youths.

Each of the five main school buildings focus on two or three grades, meaning education is assisted by facilities uniquely suited to a narrow age range.

Families preferring a private education can choose from a number of institutions in the area, including two in Hillsboro. Christian Outreach School has approximately 130 students in grades PK-12. Good Shepherd Catholic School educates nearly 100 students in grades K-8. Both schools boast average class sizes well below state and national averages.

High school graduates have a number of nearby options for higher education. Jefferson College, in Hillsboro itself, offers a wide array of two-year degree programs and is a good choice for students looking to stay at home or work while they pursue a career. Within a 30-minute drive are a number of other colleges and universities offering any number of two-year, four-year, graduate or postgraduate degree programs, including St. Louis University, Southern Illinois University, University of Missouri - St. Louis, Webster University and many others.
