History

The Jackson Chamber of Commerce grew out of an earlier Commercial Club, an organization of merchants active in the early 1890s. The Chamber of Commerce was chartered by the state of Missouri in 1955, with a reported membership of 86 members. Membership has steadily increased to our current strength of over 400.

The first Chamber office was opened and staffed with a full-time secretary in April of 1974 at the intersection of Highways 61 and 25. In October 1984, the Chamber of Commerce purchased the old post office building at 125 East Main (our current location). In 1998, the city of Jackson and the Chamber of Commerce entered into an agreement to assist in the funding of the Chamber for Economic Development and to hire an executive director to manage the day-to-day operations. A valuable partnership was formed and continues to flourish between the city and the Chamber.

The Chamber’s MISSION STATEMENT is: To strengthen and promote the member businesses, civic interests and to enhance our community’s quality of life.

Our Long-Term Goals are:

1. Provide a means for business networking, cooperation and promotion.

2. Provide special services and resources to Chamber members.

3. Promote and coordinate professional development/ education for members.

4. Act as an advocate on behalf of the members to the Chamber Board of Directors and to all levels of government.

5. Provide leadership in business and community planning and development.

6. Recognize the achievements and successes of our members.

7. To exercise fiscal responsibility in Chamber operations.

8. Coordinate the Visionary Group formed from the Chamber, the J.I.D.C., and Government entities (City, County, State and Federal).

The Jackson Chamber of Commerce has grown considerably since 1955, as has the community of Jackson. We strive to keep our membership up-to-date through our Website, weekly memos, and monthly newsletter, “The Chamber Connection,” distributed as an insert in the Cashbook Journal Newspaper to over 10,000 citizens. We will continue to provide a quality service for all concerned.
