Two excellent school districts operate in Maryland Heights.
Pattonville School District serves approximately 7,000 students in 11 schools, kindergarten through high school. More than 570 teachers are employed by the district. The Pattonville District is fully accredited through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Class sizes average about 22 students, and classrooms are enhanced with computer-based instruction and projects. College credit and advanced placement courses are offered at the high school. Over 85 percent of Pattonville’s graduates continue their education at a college or trade school. The Parkway School District has grown to be one of the largest in St. Louis County. The District operates 28 schools and an Early Childhood Center.
Parkway schools are renowned for their achievements, and 14 of the schools have received the Blue Ribbon Award for Excellence in Education from the U.S. Department of Education. Individual student accomplishments are nationally recognized as well. Each year, students are honored for outstanding achievements by the National Merit and Achievement Scholarship programs. Parkway students also consistently score high on standardized achievement tests.
The Special School District of St. Louis County Missouri (SSD) provides special education services to students in St. Louis County and vocational education services to students in St. Louis County and St. Louis City. SSD’s special education mission is to identify and educate students with disabilities to enable them to attain an independent and productive place in their communities.
Advanced degrees and certificates can be obtained at several area colleges and universities. Maryville University of Saint Louis is just four miles away. This independent, coeducational college offers both undergraduate and graduate level degree programs. Other area colleges and universities include Lindenwood University, Washington University, Saint Louis Community College-Meramec, Saint Louis Community College-Florissant Valley, and University of Missouri-St. Louis.
