A healthy, natural environment is important to the people of St. Joseph, and the recreational opportunities it affords are endless. The St. Joseph Parkway is regarded as the finest boulevard system in the United States, as it winds through the city for 26 miles. Popular for hiking and biking activities, the completed system connects principal parks and recreation facilities, anchored on the north end by the 63-acre Krug Park, with an amphitheater, lagoon, rose gardens, picnic areas, scenic walking trails, and playground, and on the south by Hyde Park, whose Recreational Complex offers lighted tennis courts, a swimming pool, horseshoe courts, a baseball complex, basketball goals, and four picnic shelters.

Noyes Sports Complex contains 12 lighted tennis courts, 16 horseshoe courts, a running track, and baseball fields. Bode Sports Complex features a six-court outdoor lighted basketball complex, with seating, scoreboards, and pro-style glass backboards. A lighted in-line skate rink complements this complex. Two sand volleyball courts and table tennis are available, as well as a full concession area and restrooms.

The St. Joseph Aquatic Park offers a 203-foot waterslide, 165-foot enclosed waterslide, 300-foot lazy river, 50-meter pool, diving well, two 1-meter diving boards, waterfall, vortex, zero-depth beach entry kids pool, lounge areas, concessions, and much more.

Residents of St. Joseph also enjoy the growing pastime of golf, and one can find several quality courses in the area. The Golf Club, Fairview Golf Course, Moila Shrine Temple and Golf Course, St. Joseph Country Club Golf, and Cool Crest Garden Golf all maintain challenging courses and many amenities, such as pro shops, restaurants, and lounges.
