The three public school districts that serve the West St. Louis County Chamber communities are highly rated in the state of Missouri and nationally recognized for their excellence.
Parkway School District is an award-winning school district that covers 68-square miles and has an enrollment of 21,000 students. The district has a total of 28 schools and an early education center. In 1997, the district received its 14th Blue Ribbon Award for excellence in education from the United States Department of Education. The educational focus in the elementary schools is on basic subjects and concepts. Parkways middle schools utilize interdisciplinary teaming designed to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of early adolescence. The high school curriculum provides a comprehensive selection of required and elective courses to prepare students for a higher education.
Parkways objective is to develop goals and action plans that, according to their mission, help students to become prepared to create and meet the challenges of the 21st century. Recently, the Parkway community joined together to form guiding principles that would lead the district into the 21st century and beyond.
Rockwood School District, located in West and Southwest St. Louis County, is a local and national award-winning district. With an enrollment of 21,500 students, Rockwood is the largest public school system in St. Louis County. Since 1991, 6 Rockwood schools have been honored with the Blue Ribbon Award of Excellence by the United States Department of Education, and 11 Rockwood schools have received the prestigious Gold Star Award from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Rockwood teachers and students work together in modern buildings, supported by specialists in the areas of reading, writing, science, math, instructional technology and many other subjects. Computer labs in every school also enhance instruction.
The mission of the Rockwood School District is that all students will obtain the skills, abilities and attitudes to be lifelong learners and productive citizens with integrity, who successfully compete in a challenging, global society.
Valley Park School District has an elementary school, middle school and high school, all located on the same campus. In 1998, supportive voters in the district approved a $3 million bond issue for construction of a two-story addition to the high school, and renovation of the existing building. All the campus buildings have undergone new construction and additions within the last five years, to ensure students the finest facilities and learning environment.
Valley Parks mission is dedicated to providing a supportive, personalized environment in which students will grow strong intellectually, emotionally, physically and socially today, in preparation for tomorrow.
West County residents also have the option of sending their children to any of the numerous private or parochial schools in the area. They represent a diverse spectrum of educational emphasis and offer a variety of quality programs for preschool through high school students.
With several highly respected and renowned colleges and universities located in the West St. Louis County area or within an easy commuting distance, residents have numerous opportunities to continue their education beyond high school.
