Transportation

Hastings, Nebraska, is located in the center of the United States 150 miles west of Omaha and 100 miles from Lincoln, the state capital.

Centrally located, Hastings enjoys excellent transportation routes, with U.S. Route 6 running along the south edge of the city east/west, and the four-lane Tom Osborne Expressway (Highway 34 and 281) connecting Hastings to Interstate 80 just a few minutes north.

The city is 9.8 square miles and well-planned for the growth Hastings is experiencing – the middle school to the west, Motorsport Park Hastings and the energy center to the east, new offices to the south, new retail to the north and development projects in the downtown.

Hastings is served by the Union Pacific, Burlington Northern Railroad and Amtrak rail service, and the airport features a 6,600-foot lighted runway. The airport services private and charter aircraft where aircraft storage is available. Commercial air transportation is only 23 miles away.

The climate surprises visitors and new residents. At 1,923 feet above sea level, Hastings averages 23 degrees in January, 51 degrees in April, 76 degrees in July and 54 degrees in October. The annual precipitation hovers around 27 inches. For more detailed information on the climate, visit the National Weather Service at www.noaa.com,which has a weather station just north of the city.
