Nebraska residents are fortunate to be served by an outstanding health care community made up of a diverse assortment of medical providers. In every part of the state, patients have ready access to a collection of state-of-the-art hospitals, clinics, surgery centers, specialty facilities and medical practices offering a wide variety of services. From primary care, dental and orthopedics to senior care, cardiology and physical therapy, Nebraska hosts doctors in virtually every medical field.

Consider:

• In total, Nebraska is home to approximately 90 hospitals with nearly 7,000 beds. Every day, 11,000 patients receive service in Nebraska hospitals.

•Hospitals employ 43,000 Nebraskans. The annual hospital payroll in Nebraska is nearly $2.4 billion.

• Approximately 4,500 doctors are active in the state – a number that continues to grow thanks to notable programs at medical schools like the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

The health care sector is among the largest industry clusters in the state; it is not only represented by hospitals and other medical facilities, but also includes drug and medical equipment/device manufacturers and distributors, social service organizations and insurance providers.

The state is highly regarded for its commitment to supplying high-quality medical care at a lower cost. In fact, according to the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, the average daily cost of a hospital stay is 27 percent lower than the U.S. average. In addition, the state prides itself on furnishing its residents with one of the highest hospital bed-to-population ratios in the country.

Nebraska’s health care community continues its tradition of excellence, supplying patients young and old with some of the nation’s most advanced and high-tech programs, services and facilities. Access to quality health care truly is one of the keys to Nebraska’s “good life.”
