Sarpy County and its
five communities have many opportunities to celebrate throughout the summer.
On every corner you may stumble upon a parade, street dance or cookout.
Held annually the last full weekend in July, Gretna Days features kiddie
rides, booths, a parade, a street dance, a picnic or a fireman's softball
Every June, La Vista Days features a carnival with a parade, cookout,
golf tournament, fireworks display and celebrity softball tournament.
Papillion Days is among the oldest county festivals and the grand parade
is the largest in the county. The celebration in June features a midway,
concessions and many cultural events.
Springfield Days, also held in June, offers a parade, arts and crafts,
dances and food vendors.
Last but not least is the Sarpy County Fair, held every August at the
county fairgrounds in Springfield. This grand celebration features a midway,
rodeos, exhibits, competitions, live entertainment, dances, a petting
zoo, parades and concessions.
Every Thanksgiving weekend Sarpy County kicks off the holiday season with
Old German Christmas held in Papillion. This traditional Old World celebration
is held at the historic John Sautter farmhouse in downtown Papillion.
The arrival of Santa Claus in a horse-drawn sleigh and many decorated
trees are some of the many highlights for the weekend.
Also held in November, usually the Sunday following Thanksgiving, is Olde
Towne Christmas in Bellevue. A number of activities are available for
kids and adults, including a special appearance by Santa Claus and lighting
of the Christmas Tree in Washington Park.
