Nearly 900 Farms Make Up Seward County
Seward County has close to 900 farms that raise alfalfa hay, corn, oats, sorghum grains, soybeans and wheat, with total annual receipts reaching nearly $116 million. The county ranked in the top 10 counties in Nebraska in the production of sorghum grains four of the last five years.
Seward’s industrial sector includes 11 businesses, employing nearly 1,000 people. Products manufactured include ready-mix concrete, agricultural limestone, stainless steel products, cross arms and engineered wood poles. Other industry includes commercial printing and fabrication. Seward’s largest employer is Tenneco Automotive-Walker Division, employing around 400 people and manufacturing automotive exhaust systems.
Major non-manufacturing employers of 40 or more include Wal-Mart, Concordia University, MetroGroup, Seward Motor Freight, Pac ‘N’ Save Discount Foods, Memorial Health Care Systems and Longview Fibre.
