Business Outlook

While the foundation of the South Shore economy rests upon tourism related to outdoor recreation and gaming, there is a healthy trend towards diversification of the local economy.

As mentioned elsewhere in this publication, the Chamber is encouraging the concept of “doing business green” so it becomes “business as usual.” Towards that end there are currently business opportunities in supporting those efforts, as well as the expanding green building movement and eco-tourism.

Similarly, there is an increasing “location neutral” business sector comprised of clean technology such as software developers, R & D, Internet services, graphic designers, as well as businesses such as investment advisors and executive support services. In 2007, the Chamber convened a group known as the Blue Business Forum to investigate and support these sorts of business ventures which may be more sustainable and provide better paying employment opportunities rather than proliferation of the retail, restaurant and service sectors.

South Shore

A new conference and event center located on the California side at Stateline will help to strengthen the local tourism shoulder seasons and present expanded business opportunities by providing services, such as audio visual services, shipping services, team building activities, amenity providers, decor and trade show services, and meeting planning services, to conference attendees.

For those wishing to open a business here at the South Shore, the Chamber has created a comprehensive Resource Guide, which provides all pertinent contact information and forms. This publication is available for sale for $15.00 by calling the Chamber or on its website.

For additional and more up-to-date information on current business trends, be sure to visit and call the Chamber offices to set up an appointment via phone or in person with the Chamber CEO.
