Atlantic City residents and visitors are fortunate to have a number of highly regarded medical services and institutions, including its own regional medical center and access to several other hospital facilities—not to mention a multitude of private practices and clinics specializing in everything from dentistry, optometry and chiropractic to orthopedic, physical therapy and family medicine.

Founded in 1898 as Atlantic City’s first hospital, AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center (ARMC) has placed itself among the best acute-care facilities in the region. The 276-bed Atlantic City Campus, located in the center of Atlantic City, is home to the region’s sole Level II Trauma Center, an excellent regional psychiatric crisis center and a revered center for surgical weight loss – plus, the top-rated teaching hospital offers a full range of inpatient and outpatient healthcare services.

With the constant influx of residents and tourists in the area, the ARMC Atlantic City Campus is constantly looking to expand its facilities and services; thus, the undertaking of the ambitious recent expansion project. The $98 million, 198,000-square-foot George F. Lynn Harmony Pavilion opened in October of 2007. The new patient tower houses a new Emergency Department, behavioral health area, radiology department, ICU, four new medical surgical floors and a modern helipad.

To serve patients on the Mainland, ARMC developed a 296-bed hospital, located in Galloway Township, which was expanded in 2006 to include a new Emergency Department, as well as Neo Natal Intensive Care and OB/GYN units.

ARMC is a significant part of the AtlantiCare integrated healthcare system, which also includes the AtlantiCare Foundation, AtlantiCare Health Services, AtlantiCare Health Plans, AtlantiCare Behavioral Health and InfoShare. This medical network hails as the region’s largest healthcare organization and stands as the largest non-casino employer with more than 4,000 employees in 60-plus locations.

AtlantiCare was recognized in 2009 by the President of the United States, receiving the Malcolm Baldrige Award in recognition of outstanding quality.

Located in Somers Point is Shore Memorial Hospital, a 296-licensed-bed, nonprofit community hospital that stands as a regional leader in providing leading-edge healthcare. With more than 35 medical and surgical specialties, more than 350 of the region’s finest physicians and 1,600-plus employees, Shore Memorial offers sophisticated medical, surgical and nursing care comparable to that offered at major metropolitan teaching hospitals.

Shore Memorial Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission and also holds a Joint Commission Certificate of Distinction and Gold Seal of Approval as a Primary Stroke Center. The hospital offers Centers of Clinical Excellence in Cancer, Cardiac, Neuroscience and Maternal/Child Health.

Through its clinic affiliation with Penn Medicine, Shore Memorial physicians and patients receive the benefits of clinical research, educational resources and a seamless healthcare connection between the two health systems. The hospital is also part of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Care Network.
