Chatham possesses several well-maintained parks that offer playing areas and open space to relax and spend time with family and friends. One such park is Shepard Kollock Park, featuring a boat launch, a covered picnic area, athletic fields, and a playground. Memorial Park includes a swimming and wading pool as well as softball fields, basketball courts, and a playground. Garden Park features six tennis courts and practice boards. Permits are needed for the pool, swim lessons, and the tennis courts. The Lum Fields provide baseball, softball, and multi-purpose field opportunities. Esternay Field features two multi-purpose fields, and Shunpike Field is home to four baseball diamonds, multi-purpose fields, basketball courts, and the Castle Park playground. Stanley Park, located next to the Passaic River, is a small park and picnic area offering a tranquil view of the river.

Fun is on the agenda for young and old alike here in Chatham. Residents can register for year-round activities at the Chatham Borough and Chatham Township Municipal Buildings. Many of the youth activities change with the season. Some of the activities include soccer, football, field hockey, basketball, skiing, lacrosse, baseball, and softball. Music, sports, and activity camps are also sponsored during the summer months. Colony Recreation Center is another great summer spot, offering a large sand-bottom swimming facility, tennis courts, paddle tennis, a playground, swim lessons, and a swim team. Chatham Skate Park, a recreational facility to meet the needs of those involved in the sports of skateboarding and in-line skating, is scheduled for a fall or winter 2002 groundbreaking.

graphicChatham is also home to dance studios, martial arts, fitness facilities and services, tennis clubs, swimming clubs, country clubs, and other recreational activities. Community service organizations abound in Chatham; the Girl Scouts, the Boy Scouts, the Kiwanis, the Rotary, the Jaycees, the Newcomers, and the Woman's Club, to name a few. These organizations give residents the opportunity to socialize and give back to the community through programs or fundraising efforts. Some other activities available to Chatham residents include the Morris County Adaptive Recreation Program for the handicapped, known as McArp, which offers a year-round calendar of activities and events. The Senior Community Center of the Chathams offers a variety of programs and services along with a wealth of information to assist seniors. The Center gives seniors the opportunity to socialize with peers, enjoy innovative programming, receive supportive healthcare services, and participate in diverse activities.
