Community and personal services are valuable and include private healthcare and private research laboratories. Other service industries include government, transportation, communication, and utilities. The area's network of airplanes, ships, trains, and trucks accounts for the largest part of the transportation industry. As for communication, there are more than 200 newspapers published in New Jersey. Local to Chatham are the Chatham Courier and the Independent Press. In addition to keeping in touch through the newspapers, there are approximately 80 broadcasting radio stations in the area.

Many major US corporations have located their headquarters or major facilities near Chatham. There also are many smaller local businesses serving Chatham Area residents. The Chatham Area Chamber of Commerce is a strong supporter of business and community. It offers business contacts, public relations, and referrals, among other services. The Chamber publishes a member directory and a newsletter that features special events and local business news, and provides an updated calendar of Chamber-sponsored events. Local business has the support of local leaders. A downtown improvement project is currently in the works. Plans for the central business district include new attractive street lighting, brick crosswalks, and an updated streetscape.
