The Recreation and Parks Department was formed in 1964, and offers a well-rounded program of seasonal activities suitable for all ages and meeting special needs, plus extensive Senior Citizen programs.
The Swim Pool Utility provides exceptional recreational facilities and various programs for the residents of Cranford. Individual and family pool memberships are available for a fee to residents, and, on a limited basis, to non-residents. Amenities include a six-lane, 25-yard indoor pool, and two Olympic Size outdoor pools, an intermediate pool and a kiddie pool. The Memorial Field Complex contains a Fitness Center and there is also a gymnasium for aerobic dance classes and other activities.
There are five all-weather, lighted tennis courts at Hillside Avenue. Additional outdoor tennis courts are available at the Cranford Clay Courts Club, a privately-run facility leased from the Township. There is a private, indoor tennis facility on Centennial Avenue. With nearly 400 acres of county and municipal parks, leisure activities abound.
