Middlesex County has a rich and interesting history, which can be seen in the numerous museums located throughout its 25 municipalities. A few famous people inhabited the area, including Thomas Alva Edison who invented many influential items at his laboratory in Menlo Township. Many of these inventions, along with the Edison Memorial Tower, are currently housed at the Menlo Park Museum right here in Middlesex County. Central Jersey was also a critical location in the American Revolution, with 296 engagements throughout the state between 1775 and 1782.
Culture and art are plentiful within the region, with a plethora of venues showcasing talented performers. Musical concerts, plays, comedy acts and art galleries all bring the arts to life. Central Jersey’s renowned State Theatre solicits performers from as far away as Scotland and Rutgers University’s Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum is one of the largest university museums in the United States. Entertainment and recreation are also abundant throughout Middlesex County, which has dozens of parks as well as a professional baseball stadium.
