Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick is named after a famous and successful former resident of the area. Robert Wood Johnson, of Johnson & Johnson, spent much time working to improve sanitation in the medical field. This 584-bed hospital was named number 26 in 2007 as U.S News & World Report’s “America’s Best Hospitals” in the nation and is the main teaching hospital for Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The cardiovascular, cancer and women’s and children’s centers of excellence further testify that Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is well deserved of their award. Additional services consist of diabetes management and education, sleep disorder treatment, digestive disorders, radiology, neurology, radiation oncology, surgery, transplantation, the list continues. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is equipped with a level one trauma center as well as a stroke center, a women’s imaging center and a clinical neurosciences center.

Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick is a 478-bed nonprofit hospital that provides exemplary care to its patients. It is a state-designated acute care children’s hospital affiliated with the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, which has been ranked the nation’s best pediatric hospital by U.S. News & World Report five years in a row (2003-2007). Pediatrics continues to shine here with the Cardiac Center for children and neonatal intensive care units. Saint Peter’s University Hospital serves as a training center for minimally invasive surgeries — hundreds of these types of surgeries have been performed here. Services in diabetes education, radiation and oncology and geriatric medicine are also available.
