high school

Education is an important aspect of life in Somerset County, and is a feature that is fostered by the availability of top-quality educational institutions that serve each community. Somerset County high schools rank in the top one percent nationally. Primary and secondary education opportunities are accessible for every municipality in Somerset County, with public school districts dedicated to providing only the highest level of learning to enrolled students. In addition to the challenging curriculum offered through the area’s school districts, the schools afford students with opportunities for extra-curricular activities, such as athletics and a variety of clubs and organizations. And if the public education route is not preferred, Somerset County is home to a number of private institutions, such as Montgomery Academy and The Pingry School.

Upon graduation from one the county’s high schools, many students choose to continue on the education path by attending one of the area’s exceptional institutions of higher learning. A great starting point can be found through Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC), which currently serves approximately 6,500 students enrolled in credit courses, plus an additional 13,000 registered for noncredit professional development and personal enrichment programs. Affordability, small class sizes, modern technology, knowledgeable faculty and staff and opportunities for transfer to the nation’s top colleges are among the appealing features of RVCC. A number of degree and certificate programs can be accessed here, with more than 80 online courses made available each semester as well.

A further choice for post-secondary education is through Somerset County Technical Institute. This public institution offers education in the areas of General and Computer Technology, Allied Health, Cosmetology, Office Administration and Commercial Art and Multimedia. The 80-acre SCTI campus is located in Bridgewater.
