outdoor concert

Cultural experiences line the streets of the Westfield Area. During the year one finds a variety of options to choose from, including antique car shows, outdoor family movies, farmers markets, choir and orchestra concerts and fabulous street festivals. In the summertime, courtesy of the hard work and dedication of the Downtown Westfield Corporation, music fills the air in Downtown Westfield. The Sweet Sounds Downtown Jazz Festival unleashes hot jazz rhythms on eight consecutive Tuesday nights, with Wednesday nights as the rain dates.

The Westfield Symphony Orchestra delights with five yearly concerts and orchestral talent that rivals any in the New York metropolitan area. For those interested in a more local flavor or advancing their musical talents, they can check out the Westfield Community Band. Enthusiasts of vocal music will love the Choral Art Society of NJ and their resounding rich harmonies all year long.

There is no shortage of drama or comedy in the Westfield Area with its rich network of thespian ventures. The award-winning Westfield Community Players put on four fantastic shows per season, ranging from comedy to drama. Budding performers can receive top-notch instruction at NJ Youth Theatre (formerly known as WYACT) from theater professional Cynthia Merrill. The New Jersey Workshop of the Arts is a haven for young artists, with galleries, performances and classes. Even those who wish to absorb culture through reading can access thousands of books at the local libraries in Fanwood, Scotch Plains, Mountainside and Westfield.
