Culture

Culture

Culture is a prime concern in Hobbs and various public and private agencies work together to bring diverse cultural experiences and events to our communities. The J. F Maddox Foundation and the University of the Southwest provide two “Distinguished Lecture Series” with such notable speakers as NFL quarterback Peyton Manning, “Miracle on the Hudson” pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and former First Lady Laura Bush. These series are free and open to the public. The area school systems offer many avenues for cultural outlets through their local drama, music and art programs. Both colleges, through their respective drama and music department, offer productions and musicals for the residents, as well as provide semi-professional opportunities to their students.

Community Play House

The Community Play House, which entertains area residents and guests with the latest theatrical plays, welcomes local aspiring actors, directors and playwrights to participate in the local productions. The Southwest Symphony thrills classical music aficionados with local concerts and provides music and instrument training to students at local grade schools.
