Education is a critically important issue for families who are relocating to the Las Cruces area. Las Cruces Public Schools offers quality staff, instruction and facilities focused on providing an excellent education for every Las Cruces student. The area also features a number of charter and private schools.

Las Cruces Public Schools

LCPS is the second-largest school district in New Mexico and continues to be one of the fastest growing in the Southwest. The school district is located in the middle third of Doña Ana County and includes Las Cruces, Mesilla, Doña Ana, Radium Springs and White Sands Missile Range. It is the third-largest employer in the county.

Mission Statement: The Las Cruces Public Schools is committed to providing a high-quality, world-class education that focuses on literacy and numeracy by providing opportunities for every student to succeed through excellence in teaching, resulting in higher academic achievement.

LCPS has a blueprint for its academic vision—the Educational Plan for Student Success, or EPSS. It focuses on literacy, numeracy and student success as its guiding tenets for providing quality instruction for the district’s children.

Additional services, curricular programs and extracurricular offerings include:

Technology: Technology is offered at all schools. Since the early 1990s, the school district has received voter-approval for school bonds to purchase hundreds of computers for classrooms, kindergarten through 12th grade.

Athletics: LCPS can boast of many state championships, ranging from football and basketball to volleyball and golf. Girls’ and boys’ teams are offered in a wide range of sports. The high schools are in the Class 5A division and follow local and state New Mexico Activities Association guidelines which promote “victory with honor.”

The Arts: Thousands of students are enrolled in the visual and performing arts. Art and music instruction begins in elementary schools. Students are enrolled in band, orchestra, choir, dance, art, theater/drama and compete in local, state and national competitions. LCPS groups have been invited guests of the Tournament of Roses parade, the Kennedy Center for the Arts, Carnegie Hall and other prestigious organizations.

Food Services: A nutritious breakfast and lunch program is offered daily. Additional dietary options are available for children with specific medical needs.

Health Services: Nurses are available at all schools to attend to students’ illnesses, injuries, chronic conditions and counseling needs. Several school-based health centers also provide medical and mental health services to hundreds of high school students.
