Spring River Park and Zoo

Bottomless Lakes State Park
Boating, swimming, fishing, hiking, camping and picnicking. Established as New Mexico’s first state park in 1933. During summer months, visitors can rent paddleboats for a small fee. Mescalero Sand Dunes
Sand dunes covering 610 acres. Hiking, camping, ATV riding and dirt biking. Open year-round. Located 45 miles east of Roswell on Highway 380, 575-627-0272.

Spring River Parkway Trail
Scenic trail winding through the Spring River Corridor including nine park sites and regional parks. 1101 W. 4th St. Call the City of Roswell Park and Recreation Office at 575-624-6720

Hondo River Recreation Trail
Recreation Trail along the Hondo River that connects Roswell Boys and Girls Club to the Yucca Recreation Center.

Cielo Grande Recreation Area
Regional park of 151 acres. Soccer complex, special-event area, large group picnic areas, multi-sport practice areas and skate park all connected by walking trails. Concession and restroom facilities available. Call the Roswell Parks and Recreation Office at 575-624-6720

Cahoon Park and Swimming Pool
One of the oldest regional parks with big shade trees and historic stone masonry. Picnics, tennis, swimming, basketball and walking in a pleasant and welcoming environment. Roswell Bird and Nature Center
One of Roswell’s newest parks. Designed to create an atmosphere where birds can be viewed in their natural habitat. Spring River Parkway south of First Church of the Nazarene, 501 N. Sycamore, 575-624-6720.

Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge
Designated hunting and fishing areas. Habitat for some of the rarest creatures in New Mexico. Diverse flora, fauna and migratory foul. Home to the annual Dragonfly Festival where you can see over 90 species of dragonflies and damselflies that inhabit the refuge.
