Business and Industry

The business and industrial base of Kenmore and Tonawanda is among the most diverse in the region as well as the state. This is due to the location of larger industries along the waterfront and its close proximity to Canada. A close proximity to an international border has become very important in recent years and a major reason businesses have chosen to make this area their home, and its location in the heart of the Niagara Region provides natural resources and markets throughout Western New York and southern Ontario.

Multi-national corporations such as 3M, Dunlop, FMC, General Motors, Praxir and Unifrax all call this area home. These well-known companies were brought to this area because of an abundant supply of water and low-cost power. Facilities for these and other companies range from multi-tenant facilities and industrial parks to large industry-heavy complexes.

The Riverview Solar Technology Park is one of these places for businesses to flourish. The 180-acre business park opened in 2007 and is located next to the Niagara River. Tenants of this park are able to receive all or a portion of their energy needs generated from onsite solar facilities. This New York State Shovel Ready Certified Solar Park focuses on green energy and preserves natural surroundings while still providing an economic vehicle to benefit the community. The idea surrounding the park was to attract organizations and institutions that will take full advantage of the benefits that are made available. Currently there are two existing multi-tenant buildings.
