The Maumee River provides residents and visitors with great opportunities to be involved in many outdoor activities. The river is a wonderful resource for fishing, boating, water skiing, canoeing and bird watching. There are state-maintained woodlands along the waterway and wildlife abounds, highlighted by rare Bald Eagles nesting near the Village of Florida and large rookeries of Great Blue Herons.
On the eastern border of Henry County, Mary Jane Thurston State Park (http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks/parks/mjthrstn.htm) offers many great outdoor adventures. Boating, camping, fishing and a whole lot more are waiting for you at this State of Ohio facility.
Napoleon has staked its claim to being a welcome spot for water lovers, with over two-and-a-half miles of public parks offering unrestricted views of the Maumee. These parks provide boat launching ramps, docks, picnic areas, nature trails, playground equipment, restrooms, small flower gardens and shelter houses for reunions and group events. Napoleon offers over 240 acres of parks and playgrounds for its residents and visitors. Amenities of these parks include the picturesque, nine-hole Napoleon Municipal Golf Course, an Olympic-sized outdoor swimming pool and Kidz Kingdom — a huge playground facility built by the volunteer efforts of Henry Countians for our children and yours.
As you travel out into the county, the villages of Deshler, Florida, Hamler, Holgate, Liberty Center, Malinta, McClure and Ridgeville Corners offer tree shaded parks and picnic areas. Shelter house opportunities are available at most of these parks and welcome your event — big or small.
Our communities are very proud of their recreational offerings. Take off your shoes and stay awhile.
