A Great Time
A large portion of Lawrence County is wooded and has been carefully managed so as to allow people plenty of enjoyment from the space. Parks, campsites, trails, and lakes for fishing, water skiing, canoeing, kayaking, and swimming are only a few of the recreational sites and activities located here.
In addition to this outdoor wonderland, the entire Tri-State Area also offers several public and private swimming pools, public parks, tennis courts, and public and private golf courses. There are three country clubs as well. Many public parks have been renovated with new playground equipment.
Clubs and organizations play a large role in the social life of the county. For youngsters and volunteers, 4-H programs are available. Other clubs geared for the young are Boy Scouts of America (Pack 106), Boy’s and Girl’s Club Ironton/Lawrence County and the Ironton National Little League. Organizations like Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Tri-State, Child Welfare Club, and Child Welfare Mission Ladies Auxiliary provide a variety of services for young people.
For those interested in the arts, The River Cities of the Tri-State Area offer the Paramount Arts Center and ACC Theatre in Ashland, Kentucky; the Huntington Outdoor Theatre, Harris Riverfront Outdoor Series, and Marshall Artists Series in Huntington, West Virginia; and the Ironton Artists Association, Ironton Council for the Arts, and Ironton Music Club in Ironton, Ohio. Several business-oriented organizations are also active in the community, such as the Greater Lawrence County Area Chamber of Commerce, Ironton Business Association and the Lawrence Economic Development Corporation.
Other clubs include the (AAUW) American Association of University Women Ironton Branch, American Legion, Elks Club, Ironton Lion’s Club, Ironton’s Rotary Club, Chesapeake Lion’s Club, Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Proctorville, South Point, Waterloo, Lawrence Lodge. The Chamber of Commerce can provide a complete list of these clubs and organizations.
