The Point Industrial Park in South Point is located in the Empowerment Zone, an Enterprise Zone owned by the Lawrence Economic Development Corporation. The Point is a 504-acre, utility-ready industrial park in South Point.
It has an excellent road and rail network and a 3,370-ft. river frontage, which includes a dock facility and bulk liquid facilities on the Ohio River. Currently, there are several industrial sites available.
One employer that the park houses is Marathon Petroleum Company LLC. The park is home to Marathon’s pipeline and tank cars. The Point is also home to Calgon tank truck service and a river fleeting service; and Engines, Incorporated, a fast growing railroad manufacturing and railcar repair company.
The Empowerment Zone is the result of a unique and successful partnership between Huntington, West Virginia and Ironton, Ohio. The empowerment zone designation empowers these communities to stimulate economic and community development in creative and effective ways.
A new industrial/commercial park, consisting of 37 acres, in the city of Ironton, offers ease of access from Route 52, clean environment, flexible usage and reliable and affordable utilities on site. Local Enterprise Zone incentives are available.
Duke Energy North America is a Fortune 100 global energy company and is the latest entry into Lawrence County. They are constructing a 1,240-megawatt power plant in the Village of Hanging Rock, Ohio.
The Liebert Corporation, a subsidiary of Emerson Electric, is also located in Ironton. Their experience with the local labor force, the quality of life, and the education and training environment, has motivated an expansion of their current 120,000-square-foot facility.
Lawrence County provides numerous industrial incentives available thru the Ohio Department of Development, in addition to the Ohio Enterprise Zone Programs, which encourage new business investment projects by providing tax incentives. Lawrence County also has new areas available for coal gasification and the production of ethanol in Hanging Rock, Ironton, and South Point.
