Location & Transportation
Two major highways intersect in Pike County. U.S. Route 23 provides easy access to Columbus (an hour away) and links to other interstates, including I-70. State Route 32, also known as the Appalachian Highway, is a four-lane route that connects Pike County to the Cincinnati market and I-75.
Portsmouth, located 30 minutes south of the county on Route 23, is an industrial port city on the Ohio River. There, terminals offer easy access to the river, which carries more than 200 million tons of cargo to U.S. and world markets each year.
Several Class I railroads serve the county and its industrial parks. Pike County Airport in Waverly is a public use airport that accommodates local and charter aircraft. Its accessibility and convenience makes it ideal for business and personal travel. Rickenbacker International Airport is located in nearby Columbus.
