ProMedica and Mercy are the two major hospital systems that serve the Toledo region. Together they employ more than 13,500 people and an additional 35,000 jobs are generated indirectly, representing the area’s largest employment sector.

ProMedica
Established in 1986, ProMedica is the largest healthcare system in the region, serving northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. ProMedica’s vast network offers diagnostic, medical and surgical specialties in areas such as emergency medicine and trauma, heart and vascular, oncology, orthopedics, neurology and women’s and children services.

ProMedica’s largest construction effort to date is The Renaissance at ProMedica Toledo Hospital and ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital. It features a 10-level, 500,000-square-foot patient tower that was designed specifically to enhance the patient care experience, expand services and better serve patients in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.

The new tower houses many of the most important clinical areas of ProMedica Toledo Hospital and ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital, including the surgical intensive care unit (ICU), adult intermediate care units, newborn intensive care unit (NICU), general pediatrics and pediatric hematology/oncology.

There are two specially designated cancer centers in the region. The area’s largest provider of radiation services is the Hickman Cancer Center at ProMedica Flower Hospital, which serves as the central hub of ProMedica Cancer Institute’s highly specialized technologies and services. The Breast Care Center at ProMedica Flower Hospital provides a full range of digital diagnostic and screening mammography services, including a R2 Image Checker Computer Aided Detection System to assist in the early detection of breast cancer. Located within the Debbie Brass Children’s Cancer Center, ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital’s pediatric hematology/oncology program employs physicians and staff that are specifically trained to treat children from birth through their young-adult years. Treatment encompasses all hematological disorders, including sickle cell disease, bleeding disorders and cancers.

University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC)
The University of Toledo Medical Center is a leading academic health center, the only of its kind in the Toledo area. It features a 320-bed hospital as well as a medical school and research center. A strong emphasis on learning at UTMC attracts the best nurses, technologists, physicians and surgeons.

Mercy
Mercy is a seven-hospital system and preferred provider of healthcare services for a 20-county area in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. Mercy has a long tradition of providing excellent cardiac and vascular service. The Mercy Heart & Vascular Center, located on the campus of Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center is the area’s only freestanding facility, dedicated to heart and vascular care.

Mercy St. Anne Hospital features the region’s only Senior ER, providing a unique, customized emergency room experience designed and staffed with senior patients age 60 and older in mind. And Mercy St. Charles Hospital is proud to feature the region’s most extensive outpatient rehabilitation facility.

Recently, Mercy opened the area’s only free standing Emergency Center. Mercy Emergency Services – Perrysburg is staffed by board-certified emergency physicians and offers hospital-level emergency care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays.

Mercy Medical Partners, an extensive network of primary care physicians specializing in family practice, internal medicine, obstetrics and pediatrics serves patients of all ages.

The Toledo Clinic
A trusted northwestern Ohio healthcare resource for over 85 years, The Toledo Clinic currently has over 175 independent physicians and associated health care professionals practicing in more than 30 medical and surgical specialties. Services are provided at the Clinic’s Secor Rd. Main Campus location and in satellite offices serving patients as far south as Bowling Green, OH, as far east as Fremont, OH and as far west as Defiance, OH. The Toledo Clinic’s service area also reaches north to Monroe and Adrian, MI. Currently the main campus consists of three buildings and includes several ancillary services including radiology, pharmacy, laboratory, pathology and physical therapy. The clinic’s Outpatient Surgery Center recently underwent a major renovation increasing its size from approximately 26,000 square feet to 35,500 square feet and expanding from six to 10 operating/procedure rooms.
