Stillwater Education

As “Oklahoma’s Education Community,” preparation of work-ready high school and college graduates is a key factor in Stillwater’s prosperity.

The Stillwater Public School District has been rated among the “Top 100” districts in the U.S., and Expansion Management Magazine gives Stillwater High School its highest “Gold Medal” rating for workforce preparation. Stillwater’s students consistently outscore other districts in the state on standardized tests. The city boasts one of the nation’s highest levels of education attainment, with 48 percent of its residents having completed 16 years or more of formal education, and nearly one in four residents having post-graduate degrees. It’s no wonder Stillwater has been named one of the Top Ten Educational Environments in the South by Southern Business Development Magazine.

Meridian Technology Center focuses on technical and workforce training for business and industry. This worldclass training facility offers 19 certificate programs that include Air Conditioning/ Refrigeration, Masonry, Practical Nursing, Business Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Culinary Arts and Automotive Technology to name a few. Additionally, MTC partners with businesses to develop specific training programs as needed and offers employee screening and development of management skills.

Stillwater is home to Oklahoma State University, a comprehensive research university attracting more than $495 million annually in research and other sponsored programs.

OSU is a Top 100 research institution with eight colleges: Agricultural Science & Natural Resources; Arts & Sciences; Business Administration; Education; Engineering, Architecture & Technology; Graduate; Human Environmental Science; and Veterinary Medicine. The university serves over 27,000 students, including 23,000 on the main campus in Stillwater. Stillwater and OSU are also home to Oklahoma’s Food and Agricultural Product Research and Technology Center. The FAPC stimulates and supports the growth of value-added food and agricultural processing products in Oklahoma.

Northern Oklahoma College (NOC) is located adjacent to OSU. Opened in 2003, the college features the NOC/OSU Gateway Program which allows students with academic deficiencies to take remedial courses at NOC Stillwater, while having the same privileges available to OSU students. More than 1,500 students enroll in the Gateway program. In addition, the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education is headquartered in the educationally rich city of Stillwater, being the only state agency not located in Oklahoma City.
