Benton County has an abundance of leisure activities to choose from, with more than 50 parks, wildlife refuges and open spaces. There are public and private recreational facilities for tennis, racquetball, golf, swimming, fitness, soccer, softball, basketball, baseball, football, volleyball, karate and horseback riding; 105 miles of on-street bike lanes and 21 miles of off-street bicycle and multimodal paths and over 2,000 acres in parks, trails and open space.

Backpacking, mountaineering, rock climbing, canoeing, camping, rafting, skiing, mountain biking and bike touring are all popular with area residents. Corvallis is located within two hours of the Cascades Mountains and an hour from the beautiful Oregon Coast. Freshwater fishing for trout and steelhead is excellent in the surrounding rivers and streams.

Culture & Attractions in Corvallis, Oregon

Major musical events and ballet are held here and in nearby communities. The University Theater, the LaSells Stewart Center on the OSU campus, the restored Majestic Theatre in downtown Corvallis and the theatre at Corvallis High School offer plays, symphony concerts, lectures, conferences and seminars throughout the year. The OSU/Corvallis Symphony, the Corvallis Youth Symphony, the Corvallis Repertory Singers and the internationally known Heart of the Valley Children’s Choir provide performances year-round. Corvallis film lovers can choose from two national multiplexes and a locally owned, four-screen art cinema located in the heart of downtown, as well as two annual film festivals.

The Oregon State Beavers are a favorite draw for sports enthusiasts. Home games of OSU football attract as many as 46,300 spectators. Basketball games, gymnastics meets and baseball games are major events as well.

Corvallis Parks and Recreation provide year-long programs for children and adults. The Corvallis Senior Center has wonderful programming for our seniors, and the Linn-Benton Community College Benton Center provides workout, recreation and martial arts classes, in addition to an array of other life enriching classes in everything from cooking to ceramics.
