Senior Living

Hermiston’s new Frank Harkenrider Senior Center opened its doors in September 2018, named in recognition of Harkenrider who served twice as Hermiston Mayor and also several terms on city council. Harkenrider was a strong supporter of Hermiston’s Senior Board and was actively engaged in the development of the new Senior Center. When he died in 2017, city council named and dedicated the new Senior Center in his memory.

The city was awarded a $2 million Oregon Community Development Block Grant through the Oregon Infrastructure Finance Authority for construction of a new Senior Center. The city council added $750,000 to the project for a 3,800-square-foot basement (for a total of 11,000 square feet), elevator, fireplace, beautiful kitchen, many amenities and improvements for parking for easy access.

The Hermiston Senior Board raised an additional $75,000 for the kitchen, including many local donations. It truly offers many activities for our seniors year-round.

Hermiston is home to many wonderful and lovely senior living homes and facilities with the best care and loving atmospheres.

Recently two new memory care homes have opened in Hermiston, each boasting a unique and locally-themed architecture at Guardian Angel Homes. These two homes – “The Tuscan” and “The Ranch” cater specifically to the needs of those with Alzheimer’s and dementia, and will allow them to serve a broad and diverse array of elders needs across three care homes.
