In appreciation of the values brought to Butler County by our first settling families and in honor of the importance of the agriculture industry, the Butler County Historical Society along with the Butler County Chamber of Commerce & Tourism began a two-century landowner recognition in 1994.

This recognition honored families who were still actively farming land that was settled by their family 200 years ago. Those recognized included:

1994 - Mr. and Mrs. Dale Harvey, Sarver
1995 - Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Hines, Slippery Rock; Mr. and Mrs. George Studebaker, Slippery Rock
1996 - Clinton McGowan, Prospect; Mr. and Mrs. Wade Cooper, Slippery Rock;
Mr. and Mrs. James Moser, Chicora; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence McCandless, Butler
1997 - Thelma Fleeger, Butler ; Mr. and Mrs. Roger Park, Valencia

The commitment of families like these is truly a legacy to the family farm and to the memory of those of our ancestors who sacrificed so much to build a strong Butler County.
