Chester County is home to some of the finest public school districts in the area, as well as a broad range of private and secondary schools. There are 12 public school districts in Chester County, ranging in size from large suburban to small rural, each catering to the specific needs of its community while exceeding the state’s academic standards. These school districts include Avon Grove, Coatesville Area, Downingtown Area, Great Valley, Kennett Consolidated, Octorara, Owen J. Roberts, Oxford Area, Phoenixville Area, Tredyffrin-Easttown, Unionville-Chadds Ford, and West Chester Area.
Chester County also has a number of alternatives to public schools, such as parochial and private schools, which strive to not only meet students’ educational needs, but spiritual as well.
Chester County and its surrounding areas offer a diverse selection of higher educational institutions. There are many four-year colleges and universities, including Cheyney University, Immaculata College, Lincoln University, Penn State Great Valley, Valley Forge Christian College and West Chester University. There are also numerous trade, technical and community schools that provide flexible, vocational educations.
