While Eastern Montgomery County’s close proximity to Philadelphia provides it with access to a wealth of world-class attractions, its own vibrant cultural landscape is something to behold. Residents and visitors alike enjoy theatrical productions, musical performances, exciting films and a range of artistic programming within the county’s borders.

The Abington Art Center (AAC) welcomes art lovers to explore its historic 27-acre campus in Jenkintown, well-located just 10 miles outside of Center City Philadelphia. AAC hosts a variety of rotating exhibits, workshops and classes, as well as exciting events. A unique and fascinating outdoor Sculpture Park surrounds the center, providing visitors a chance to experience the fusion of nature and art.

The historic Keswick Theatre, located within the Keswick Village shopping district in Glenside, is recognized as one of the most active and diversified venues in the region, presenting a calendar year full of nationally and internationally known performers, as well as dozens of shows for school children. Also be sure to visit the Mitchell Performing Arts Center (MPAC), located on the campus of the Academy of the New Church in Bryn Athyn. MPAC is a prime place to view performances from such groups as the Bryn Athyn Orchestra and local theatre clubs.

Movie-goers have plenty of options in the region. The Hiway Theatre in Jenkintown presents great cinematic shows — both new and old — and a range of special events and programs, while the Ambler Theater offers a unique experience for audiences. With gorgeous old-style architecture serving as the backdrop, the Ambler Theater presents the latest motion pictures, documentaries and foreign films.

Eastern Montgomery County even offers something for the sports fanatic. The area’s proximity to Philadelphia provides fans the opportunity to root for teams in all four major sports. The 2008 World Champion Phillies (MLB), 76ers (NBA), Eagles (NFL), Flyers (NHL), Phantoms (AHL) and KiXX (NISL) have all made a home in the city. In addition to these popular professional spectator sports, the area’s rich higher learning institutions have made way for an assortment of collegiate sporting events.

Whether you’re a business traveler in need of overnight accommodations or are visiting for a longer length of time, you are guaranteed a comfortable place to stay and sleep in the county. The area’s convenient location places it within close proximity to the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Willow Grove, leading to the establishment of a number of high-quality, reasonably priced hotels. Excellent choices for unmatched accommodations include the Hilton Garden Inn Fort Washington and the Hampton Inn in Willow Grove.
