Business and Industry

Eastern Montgomery’s expanse of both new and existing businesses, due in part to its proximity to Philadelphia and New York City, complemented by a commuter-friendly transportation network, makes the county a great place to earn a living.

While the health care, education and manufacturing industries continue to thrive in Eastern Montgomery County, many others are finding success, too. Even more than its diverse base of businesses, its aforementioned strategic location and valuable employee base comprises a strong support system that has been established in the county and its closely surrounding area.

business-focused organizations

A multitude of business-focused organizations have been formed in the region with missions to encourage the retention, expansion and overall enhancement of the area’s economic environment. It is recommended that these resources be taken advantage of to enhance business prospects and potential.

The Eastern Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce is an action-oriented organization that works diligently to promote its 500-plus member businesses. The Chamber’s growing roster is composed of an assortment of small, medium and large

companies — all of which take advantage of numerous and diverse networking opportunities, informational business resources, marketing and advertising tools, educational lectures and workshops, and much more. In addition, the Chamber serves as a voice in governmental issues, ensuring its businesses’ issues are brought to attention.

Montgomery County recently developed an innovative “one-stop shop” approach to economic development. The MC2B initiative offers businesses a single place to obtain and access a full range of business products and services.

The restructured Commerce Department utilizes shared financial and operational resources to deliver financial programs, workforce development initiatives, and youth programs throughout the county. This unique partnership between Montgomery County, the Montgomery County Development Corporation, and the other independent authorities operating in the county establishes the Commerce Department as one of the broadest, deepest organizations of its kind in the Commonwealth.

Committed to strengthening and building the county’s economic vitality, and ultimately enhancing the overall quality of life, the Montgomery County Development Corporation (MCDC) provides a number of financial assistance/funding and loan programs. Supplementing these programs is a range of professional support services, which includes aid in obtaining state grants, site and building property searches.

For employers, the office offers access to low-interest loans, information on available relocation and/or expansion sites, a base of skilled employees and training grants. On the employee side, the department presents the Employment Advancement & Retention Network (EARN), a welfare-to-work program, along with occupational training options. Youth are also well served through the Department of Economic & Workforce Development, as participants take advantage of the Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) and the Next Step Program.
