The 340-bed Western Pennsylvania Hospital–Forbes Regional Campus is located in Monroeville, providing high quality medical care to eastern Allegheny County and Westmoreland County residents. More than 65,000 patients are cared for at the hospital each year, with around 12,000 surgeries performed. Over 40,000 visits are recorded at the recently expanded Gerald McGinnis Emergency Department annually, making it one of the busiest emergency departments in the entire region. The renowned Joslin Diabetes Center is also affiliated with Western Pennsylvania Hospital and located on the Forbes Regional Campus.

Presently, the Western Pennsylvania Hospital–Forbes Regional Campus is undergoing a $24 million enhancement project in the hospital, which includes a modern Heart and Vascular Center, facilities for advanced surgery procedures and the newly finished Women’s and Infant’s Care Center. This center offers 11 new labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum care rooms, cutting-edge medical equipment, a Level I Nursery, a Level II Special Care Nursery and many more necessities. The comprehensive construction is slated for completion in spring of 2008.

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Presbyterian is located in the Oakland portion of Pittsburgh and is hailed as an advanced medical/surgery hospital. The hospital is acclaimed for its expertise in organ transplantation and is a pioneer in cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, critical care and trauma services and neurosurgery. On top of that, UPMC Presbyterian is designated as a Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center.

A stone’s throw from Monroeville is the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, the only hospital in the western portion of the state dedicated to providing health services to infants, children and young adults. Both U.S. News & World Report and Child Magazine named the hospital one of the top 10 children’s hospitals in the country.

Also situated in Pittsburgh is the Magee-Women’s Hospital, a full-service medical facility now serving both men and women in a wide range of healthcare specialties. The hospital, the site for nearly 10,000 births annually, has been accredited as a National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health, is recognized as the regional referral center for high-risk maternal care and is equipped with the largest neonatal intensive care unit in the state with the treatment of more than 1,000 seriously or critically ill newborns each year. The hospital serves as a teaching site for the University of Pittsburgh, offering education in obstetrics, gynecology, gynecologic oncology and neonatology.

For the older generation, a number of assisted living facilities are located within a 15-mile radius of Monroeville. Situated in the community near the Forbes Regional Campus is ManorCare Health Services, providing nursing care, sub-acute and medical rehabilitation short-term care and Alzheimer’s care and HealthSouth Hospital providing rehabilitative and acute long term care. Additional facilities include LGAR Health and Rehabilitation Center, Amber Glen, Autumn Ridge Assisted Living, Beverly Health Care, Beatty Pointe Village, the Cedars of Monroeville, Sunrise Assisted Living, Woodhaven Care Center, Arden Court and Independence Court.
