Letter from the Chamber
Summerville has much to be proud of. Progress continues with the Berlin G. Myers Parkway extension, the Flowertown Festival had over 250,000 visitors this year and our very own Woodlands Resort and Inn maintains its AAA 5-Diamond/Mobil 5-star ratings. The rest of the world is finding out what we have always known--that Summerville is a great place to live and visit.
It's hard to believe that 30 years ago the Town of Summerville had a population of 3,000, and today we exceed 33,000. Where are the people coming from? From all over the world. We now have 100-plus industries representing 11 different countries and employing about 6,000 workers in Dorchester County. Over 10,000 tourists come through the Visitor Center representing all 50 states, looking for a place to live, work, worship and play. No longer are we viewed only as a bedroom community.
There is an air of excitement regarding the Chamber's efforts to promote businesses, education and our quality of life. We appreciate the outpouring of support from so many regarding our efforts to serve as your voice, ensuring a qualified workforce, and promoting travel and tourism. In my visits over the past several months, there seem to be a few main reasons that I hear why businesses today desire to be a member of the Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce:
“My involvement and membership in the Chamber has allowed me to make contacts and develop relationships that have improved my business.”
“The Chamber allows me to help ensure this community's progress which in turn ensures the success of my business.”
“Because the Chamber of Commerce allows my business to have a larger collective voice and influence on matters affecting the business community and the community as a whole.”
“Because the Chamber of Commerce helps to establish an environment that protects and improves the quality of life for the residents of this area, and I want my business to be a part of that effort.”
All the accolades are the result of the efforts of many. We can, through organized effort, make this the kind of community we determine it should.
Summerville is continually growing and changing, but it still holds on to its important role in history and the small-town values that make it a truly charming place to visit. Your Chamber is proud to play a role in the town's success and invites you to join our efforts to help keep this town a great place to live and play.
