contentsTwin Cities TN Chamberads

The Twin Cities have a rich and interesting history. The communities were a major rail hub during the heyday of the railroad, and Fulton boasted several grand hotels and an opera house. Fulton was once known as the “Banana Capital of the World.” Prior to the invention of the refrigerated rail car, all bananas that came north from New Orleans were iced down at the Fulton rail yard. For 30 years, the two cities hosted the Banana Festival, a multi-week festival featuring visitors from South America, beauty pageants, many dinners and other activities. The major feature of the Banana Festival was a one-ton banana pudding that was pulled through town on a float and then distributed to the many hungry celebrants. The City of Fulton is home to two Historic Districts; the Carr Historic District and the Downtown Fulton Historic District. Both are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Paperwork is being done to have the Rosenwald School in South Fulton placed on the register.
