Allen is a community of well-educated, involved parents who understand the advantages a premium education provides their children. Allen ISD continues to enhance programs that give our students the skills to compete in today's world.

While focusing on the three "R's" of reading, writing and arithmetic, the Allen Independent School District has identified three new "R's" that will help all of our children be successful...rigor, relevance and relationships. By providing a rigorous curriculum, helping students make the connection between life and learning, and by building relationships with every child and parent; we can and will make a positive difference in your child's life.

Seven of the school district's 15 school buildings have opened since 1995 and five more have been renovated since 1997. A new elementary school will open in 2003 and a new middle school will open in 2004. These campuses are staffed by teachers and support personnel who recognize the individual needs of students.

Twelve of the school district's 14 campuses were rated Exemplary by the Texas Education Agency in 2001-2002 and the remaining two campuses earned Recognized ratings. In addition to state ratings, Allen High School received the prestigious National Blue Ribbon School Award form the U.S. Department of Education in May 2002.

Southwest Academy is an independent, coeducational, nonprofit school established in 1994. Southwest offers a full-day program for children three years old through eighth grade. Its philosophy is that learning lasts longer when it involves the whole brain and is most effective when it accommodates individual learning styles and is most efficient when it occurs in a pleasant, supportive environment. Our mission is to teach children that they are lovable and capable and to be life-long learners.

The Academic Program provides a positive, caring, non-pressured environment that empowers each child to develop his full potential, individual character, and self esteem. The program uses Multisensory Teaching Techniques to reach children with average or above average I.Q. through the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning channels to maximize the learning experience. "See it, Say it, Do it." Research indicates multisensory teaching can increase both learning and retention by 25 to 100 percent. And, it teaches students practical skills for living such as concentration, self-discipline, and emotional intelligence while emphasizing "how to learn" so that new skills can be applied to any situation. Programming is individualized in a cooperative rather than a competitive atmosphere.
