Education

A good education provides the foundation for a bright future and gives students a leg-up in the world. Brown County offers an advantageous structure designed to meet the educational needs of individuals from all walks of life. With seven independent school districts, a four-year university, a technical college and a community college, Brown County is an ideal location for training for any career.

Brownwood and Early independent school districts as well as local private schools, Cross Classical Academy and Victory Life Academy, offer cutting-edge, award-winning and diverse educations that give children the greatest opportunity to reach their individual goals.

Chess

Brownwood ISD is comprised of eight campuses (Pre-K through 12th), and offers “a world-class education with a hometown feel.” Some benefits that set Brownwood ISD apart from other school districts are an elementary chess program, career technology, dual credit programs with local colleges, and the use of cutting-edge technology. All high school and middle school students, as well as teachers at Brownwood ISD are issued laptops, while iPads are available as classroom teaching tools in 4th, 5th and 6th grades. In 2013, BISD was awarded as a “Top 3 Small District in Texas” by the coveted H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards. With a variety of extracurricular programs that include cross-country, volleyball, football, tennis, and golf, etc. as well as UIL programs that include robotics, theatre, and music, every student has an opportunity to get involved in something they enjoy while receiving a quality education that prepares them for a successful future.

Higher education

Higher education in Brown County has a broad spectrum of opportunities for adult learners. Howard Payne University is a four-year Liberal Arts college that offers 50 degree programs, both bachelor and associate. HPU’s tradition of quality instruction with a servant leadership philosophy has attracted students from around the world. Texas State Technical College and Ranger College both offer a variety of associate and certificate programs, as well as a broad range of continuing education to area residents. TSTC specializes in high-tech programs ranging from engineering to culinary arts offering the highest level of skill training in short time period. Ranger College also a two-year college offers training in specialized fields such as nursing and education.
