Special events, greater academic accomplishments and accolades galore highlighted Cedar Hill ISDs foray into its second century of "Excellence in Education." In the last decade alone, CHISD has witnessed unprecedented growth up to 7000 + students. But in Fall 2001, Cedar Hills citizens responded to the challenges of growth and overwhelmingly approved an $89.7M bond package, which will provide new and improved facilities.
At the turn of the 20th Century, Texas officially recognized Cedar Hill Independent School District -- and the rest is history. In 2000, CHISD, City of City Hill, and the Cedar Hill Chamber of Commerce celebrated Cedar Hill ISDs Centennial with a Country Day on the Hill Parade.
In recent years, Newsweek magazine ranked CHHS among the top 450 schools in the entire nation. In October of 2000, DMagazine touted the CHHSs Advanced Placement program as #1 in North Texas. Thanks to the school board, input of Cedar Hills citizens, and professional advice, CHISD now has a 10-year district plan. The skyrocketing growth of Cedar Hill brought home the need to project ahead, and with anticipated opening of new schools, school zones have just been redrawn.
At press time, the CHHS boys Longhorn basketball team had just locked up the 2002 District Championshipand is rated in the top 10 in the entire nation by USA Today. Words just in that CHISD is home to 20+ Advanced Placement Awards, numerous National Merit Commendations, and three National Merit Scholars, and numerous Duke Merit Students.

Weve seen opening of Longhorn Stadium, ground-breaking for a new intermediate and elementary school, expansion construction at four existing elementary schools, inauguration of long-distance learning classes, opening of the state-of-the-art Even Start program, as well as TOPS Lab.
Everyones looking forward to the dedication of the Performing Arts Hall, and a new ninth grade center, a new middle school, a sixth elementary school, a new administration building, Band Hall and Dance area, and many technology and facility upgrades necessitated by the passage of time. Also, CHISDs Community Education department offers extended day care for school children and a wide array of continuing education courses. CHHS graduates often leave with numerous college credits, thanks to a concurrent education program with Cedar Valley Community College.
Inroads continue to be made in TAAS testing, and Cedar Hill boasts a Recognized school, West Intermediate, and Bray Elementary, an Exemplary School. Several other schools were honored with a Texas Successful School Award, and earning the title first of "Recognized District" and then, "Exemplary District" is the goal of every CHISD teacher, student, and administrator.
