Cedar Hill has six office/retail complexes. Two existing shopping centers with a total of 320,000 square feet are anchored by major grocery chain stores. The downtown historic district is an area of antique and other specialty shops, and restaurants. Properties in the historic district may be eligible for a tax abatement program specific to this district.
A new shopping center on the northeast corner of FM 1382 and US 67 was completed in 1999. This center includes Kohls, Home Depot and an Albertsons store. Another new retail center is under construction on the southeast corner of this intersection. This center will open in late 2000 and includes Barnes & Noble, Old Navy, Linen-N-Things, Chillis and Macaroni Grill.
Other retail services include a lumber company, home improvement supply stores, drug stores, several dry cleaners, automotive parts, supplies and services, discount department stores, childrens clothing, computer and office supplies, several convenience stores, florists, garden supplies and nurseries, beauty salons and barber shops, jewelry, photography, printing and copying, and video rentals. Cedar Hill has two national banks (Bank of America and Wells Fargo) and three local banks (Bank United, First State Bank and Main Bank). There are also several restaurants that offer a variety of menus.
A variety of professional services are available in Cedar Hill. Those services include: health care professionals, interior designs, commercial and residential real estate brokers, title companies, attorneys, insurance agents, accountants, a surveyor, engineers and architects.
Since their opening several years ago, visitors to Lake Joe Pool and Cedar Hill State Park have a dramatic impact on the City sales tax receipts. Park officials expect visitation to the Cedar Hill State Park to continue to increase in coming years. Attendance in 1999-2000 approached 2 million.
