The people of Hereford hold a strong belief in the value of education and support a public system that pursues excellence in all aspects.

According to the Texas Education Ratings, the Hereford Independent School District is a "Recognized" school district. Five of the elementary schools had TAAS scores of 80% or above in language arts and math for the "Recognized" rating. One Elementary achieved an "Exemplary" (90% or above) rating. Hereford Junior High and Hereford High School each achieved an "Acceptable" rating with scores that continue to improve.
HISD operates eight campuses including one high school, an alternative high school, one junior high school, and six elementary schools, supporting a total diverse student population of 4,091 with an overall student/teacher ratio of 13.5 to one. Along with academic excellence, students in secondary school are offered extra-curricular activities of volleyball, football, golf, baseball, wrestling, track and field, band, orchestra, choir, and science fair competition.
Hereford High School
has reached high standards in sports as well as academic studies. With
a no pass/no play policy, students have excelled in many areas:
Along with sports, Hereford students can also participate in drill team, UIL competitions, age-related competitions, speech/drama, art, woodworking, and other career and technology areas.
In a rural community with a vested interest in agriculture, Hereford Future Farmers of America and 4-H organizations have livestock judging teams and participate in livestock projects and show competitions. Hereford has also had students participate in Rodeo competitions.
Other clubs include: National Honor Society; Debate Team; Anchor Club; Key Club; Modeling Club; Car Club
Four private Christian
schools offer an alternative to public education.
