Education

high school

The Jasper Independent School District, a growing, progressive education system, serves the Jasper area. The pre-K through 12th grade district operates six facilities within the area, including the Jean C. Few Primary School (prekindergarten-2), Parnell Elementary School (3-4), J.H. Rowe Intermediate School (5-6), Jasper Junior High School (7-8), Jasper High School (9-12) and the STARS campus, which is designed for people ages 16 through 21 who are choosing to return to school in order to complete his or her high school education and earn a high school diploma.

While the majority of Jasper area students attend public school, there are plenty of outstanding alternative options available through private and parochial institutions.

Higher learning opportunities can be accessed through Angelina College’s distance learning center at the Jasper Teaching Center. On top of the college-level academic courses and continuing education offerings, the college offers technical and non-credit classes—all available through day or night options. Also provided through the facility is the Testing Center, academic counseling, financial advising and the Learning, Resources and Support Center.

Within short driving distance, undergraduate and graduate students have access to a number of further higher education selections, notably Lamar University in Beaumont; McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA; and Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches.

Jasper Public Library

The Jasper Public Library is an excellent educational resource in the community and is accessible to all residents. The library is lined with close to 30,000 books and more than 2,400 audio and/or video materials. Its employees are available to assist patrons in finding any and all resources they may request.

In 2007, the generous T.L.L. Temple Foundation donated five acres of land to be utilized for constructing a new library facility. Plans are progressing on this development project—check back soon!
