Jasper-Lake Sam Rayburn Area Chamber of Commerce

The Jasper-Lake Sam Rayburn Area Chamber of Commerce is made up of 400 businesses, professionals, organizations, churches and individuals dedicated to helping area businesses prosper and promoting area commerce.

Chamber members network themselves through special events like business luncheons, ribbon cuttings, banquets and family festivals and tournaments. Area businesses are benefited greatly by joining the chamber. Visitors to the area who make their way through the Chamber of Commerce can pick up brochures, business cards and other information relating to local shops and restaurants, while business owners lean on each other for support and promoting.

Jasper Economic Development corporation - JEDCO

JEDCO is a non-profit corporation formed to facilitate economic growth in and around Jasper through the expansion of existing businesses and addition of new businesses.

The Texas Legislature passed the Development Corporation Act of 1979 in response to business leaders requesting authorization to create an entity that could encourage the development of new local commerce. In 1989, the legislature amended the act by adding Section 4A, allowing the creation of development corporations. These corporations could be funded by the imposition of a local sales tax, which would be dedicated to economic development. This tax could only be levied by approval of the voters of the city.

JEDCO was created in Jasper in March, 1993. The corporation is overseen by 17 board members and the Jasper City Council. Under the direction of these two entities, JEDCO provides complete business location and expansion assistance to existing and new industries on a confidential basis and at no charge. JEDCO’s services include a database of land and buildings currently available, financial assistance through the corporation’s resources, aid in obtaining state and federal financial assistance, assistance in identifying and procuring workforce, arrangements for labor training, demographic and socioeconomic information and foreign trade development through the Texas Office of International Business.

As a Section 4A corporation, JEDCO projects are limited by law to include manufacturing and industrial facilities, research and development facilities, military facilities, recycling facilities, distribution centers, small warehouse facilities, primary job training facilities for use by institutions of higher education and regional or national corporate headquarters facilities. JEDCO can also use its sales tax revenue funds for job training classes, certain infrastructural improvements that promote or develop new or expanded business enterprises, career centers, business airports and port-related facilities.

Jasper as an Industry

Jasper is 15 minutes from the largest man-made lake in the state. Sam Rayburn is a 114,500-acre lake just north of Jasper.

Jasper borders two of the four national forests, Angelina and Sabine, encompassing 339,000 acres and two major inland waterways, the Angelina and Neches Rivers.

Jasper has a higher education facility and major hospital and home healthcare facilities. Jasper has a kidney dialysis Center, physical therapy, emergency air lift service, dentists, orthodontist and approximately 25 physicians.

Jasper has an instrument-rated airport capable of landing mid-sized passenger jets. Jasper has a well-managed, 40,000 volume public library. Jasper has eight banking/credit union facilities. Jasper has an attractive lighted cinder walking jogging path. Jasper has youth program soccer, baseball and T-ball. Jasper is a faith-based community with caring, friendly people.
