"Part of Kaufman's appeal is proximity to Dallas," says Lee Ayres, CEO of the city's economic development corporation. "The fact that we're about 32 miles from downtown Dallas is a plus."

Less than 30 minutes east of Dallas, Kaufman is the heart of its namesake county and just as in decades past continues to be a hub of activity. An estimated 30,000 residents within the city's jurisdiction and another 90,000 who reside within the county's boundaries enjoy ease of access to two major airports. Dallas-Fort Worth Airport is less than an hour's drive, while Dallas' Love Field is just 40 minutes away.

Even closer is the recently updated Terrell Municipal Airport, which has welcomed flight enthusiasts, dignitaries, and heads of corporations, making entry to Kaufman and surrounding communities extremely convenient. The airport's runway is more than 5,000 feet long with lead-in lights and fuel services.

The sites of leisure activities such as American Airlines Center, home to the championship-winning Dallas Mavericks, the newly developed arts district, and a myriad of other recreational outlets, such as golf courses and lakes, also are 20 to 25 minutes from Kaufman.

"Transportation access is so important," Ayres said. "We've made more progress on the State Highway 34 bypass in the past two years than we had in the last 30 years. This project is currently under construction and will open up several hundred acres for commercial development."
