There is entertainment for all at the Dallas Music Hall in Fair Park for musicals; Starplex in Fair Park for outdoor concerts; and the magnificent Meyerson Symphony Center for symphony, opera and other musical performances. The Dallas Theater Center and its Arts District Theater provide a wide range of theatrical offerings. The Dallas Museum of Arts provides exhibits and educational programming as well as musical programs only minutes from Lancaster.
In addition to the State Fair of Texas held every fall, Fair Park is the site of the Dallas Museum of Natural History, The Science Place, African American Museum, Horticultural Center, Dallas Aquarium, Hall of State, and The Womens Museum, all providing cultural, recreational and educational activities throughout the year.
Lancaster is fortunate to have Cedar Valley College in our community. In addition to the art exhibits displayed periodically, the college provides live theater, producing four plays and/or musicals each year.
Within our city limits there are walking tours into Lancasters historical past. The tour will guide you through historical downtown, mapping out significant buildings and locations that shaped the city. Look into the history of Lancaster at the High School Alumni Association Museum located in the old high school building on Centre Street, with memorabilia on display dating back to the turn of the century. The Lancaster Historical Society is proud of The Rose Garden at the historic MKT Depot and their accomplishments in the restoration of that site. The Veterans Memorial Library is renowned for its Genealogical Research Department. Enrich your day with a visit to our local art gallery, Buchanon Company Art Gallery, a private business. A short drive will take you by the Rawlins House, built in 1855 by one of the founding fathers of Lancaster, where old-time travelers heading south stopped for water and sometime camped at its well. The same drive takes you by the Strain Farmstead, Lancasters oldest working farm.
