Polk County is located in the heart of East Texas—Forest Country. Our neighbors in the surrounding counties are easily accessible and offer a variety of activities and day trips. Our neighbors to the north, Lufkin/ Nacogdoches, offer a variety of historical sites and seasonal activities. The Texas Forestry Museum is located in Lufkin, as well as a variety of dining and entertainment opportunities. Follow U.S. Highway 190 West to historical Huntsville and visit the Sam Houston Museum and college campus, or the prison museum. The Walker County courthouse is surrounded by a variety of shops, boutiques and cafes. Highway 190 East will lead you past the Alabama-Coushatta reservation to Woodville. This drive is best made when the dogwoods are in bloom. Woodville also has some small antique shops, art and variety shops, along with cafes. Proximity to Houston, south on U.S. Highway 59, expands the cultural and entertainment options of the area. Just an hour’s drive away will allow you to catch a baseball game (Astros) at Minute Maid Park, a football game (Texans) or the world’s largest rodeo (Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo) at Reliant Stadium. The Toyota Center in downtown Houston hosts basketball (Rockets) and hockey games (Aeros), as well as the nation’s top concerts and touring shows. The Houston Theater district also offers a variety of theater and musical productions.

After you have visited the surrounding area, you can “Come Home” to Polk County and continue to enjoy the relaxed country living that we all take for granted. We welcome you to visit for a day or ……………
