Lubbock serves as the "medical center" for communities in a 77-county region that includes West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. Medical facilities include Covenant Medical Center, Covenant Medical Center-Lakeside, Covenant Children’s Hospital, University Medical Center, Highland Medical Center and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. The Health Sciences Center’s newest facility, the Garrison Geriatric Education and Care Center provides improved quality of life for the region’s elderly.
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is also home to the Schools of Medicine, Nursing and Allied Health, with a School of Pharmacy in nearby Amarillo. Lubbock is positioned to meet the growing demands for nurses with additional Schools of Nursing at Covenant Medical Center and South Plains College.
Additional specialty centers such as the Joe Arrington Cancer Center, Canyon Lakes Residential Treatment Center, and Lubbock Regional Mental Health Mental Retardation Center add to the vast resource of medical knowledge and expertise available to patients in Lubbock.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at University Medical Center is world renowned for its quality care of our most precious and fragile newborns. Each year, the Center’s Foundation raises hundreds of thousands of dollars through the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon to help care for the area’s youngest citizens. Lubbock is definitely the place to be if you ever find yourself in need of medical services.
